Allowing workers to legally opt-out of mandatory hours beyond 40-60/week will create jobs. A lot of jobs. Similarly, increasing employers penalty on overtime wages from 1.5x to 2x or 2.5x would have a similar effect, thereby reducing current unemployment levels.
Requiring a worker to be performing work or unpaid work related activities (travel, commuting) for more than 12 hours/day, 7 days/week should be recognized as a violation of human rights.
The administration must champion introduction of legislation that allows American workers to refuse unreasonable mandatory overtime. At present, employers in most states may require workers to remain at a job site for any length of time without breaks, and the same workers may be required to return to the job site with inadequate time to rest
