Every year, american universities pour out thousands of computer science and electronics graduates who will then either look for a job with a big company or start their own company. Thanks to the big tech companies owning nearly all imaginable patents (from the most stupid to the most intelligent), young graduates face a brick-wall in terms of starting their own business! Software patents are now evil and UPSTO has proven on countless occasions how broken the system is. I believe that if software patents lasted 6 months or a year max, then it would not be such a problem. Big firms would recoup their R&D cost (which is low in software) and we'd be having thousands of young entrepreneurs each year, creating companies and more importantly, jobs!
