limit the use of antibiotics in animals who's meat is intended for or may be used for human consumption.

Created by T.H. on December 01, 2012

A recent story by the New York Times found that "80% of all antibiotics sold in the US go to chickens, pigs, cows and other animals that people eat." Another recent report by Consumer Reports found that a majority of pork sold in the US is contaminated with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. Resistance is a major treat to public health. Requiring farmers to have a veterinarian inspect their animals and prescribe the antibiotics would help to stem some of the abuse occurring. Additionally, there should be a cap on the amount of antibiotics that can be purchased for use in animals and a prohibition on the use of the antibiotics most critical to human health in animals.
