limit valid signatures for petitions affecting, wholly, a single State of the union to those of residence in that State.

Created by G.R. on November 11, 2012

Following the recent election, there has been a wave of petitions regarding federal permission for a State to peacefully secede from this Union.

As in the Civil War, this would fall under an issue of States Rights.

However, just as a resident of another state may not vote on ballot initiatives, or run for office, in a State which they are not a resident of, it would be improper for a petitioner to be counted in the voices calling for secession of a State they are not a resident of.
