Over the past few decades, the cost of goods and services has continued to rise while real wages have remained stagnant. If the minimum wage were linked to Congressional pay increases, people would have more money to spend, and the economy would benefit. The businesses that supply goods and services would also benefit from increased sales, as a result of increased consumer demand. This simple solution would also help people who make slightly more than the minimum wage by driving wages to where they should be, if indexed with inflation.
