The National Firearms act was enacted in 1934. Under the NFA a citizen is allowed the opportunity to purchase Firearms subject to the 1934 Act that includes, shotguns and rifles having barrels less than 18 inches in length, certain firearms described as “any other weapons,” machineguns, and firearm mufflers and silencers. There are already strict rules and regulations in place to purchase these firearms. In the spirit of democracy we should not ban assault rifles but list them as class 3 firearms. If assault rifles are banned possibly thousands of people from the machinist that make the guns and parts, to assembly line workers, and employees for major businesses like Bushmaster would lose their jobs. As a democracy we must do what is right for the people and compromise.
