Lobby Congress to reform the tax code to enable college grads to make pre-tax student loan payments.

Created by M.T. on March 14, 2013

Federal student loan payments should be eligible to be pre-tax paycheck deductions. It makes no sense to have to pay federal income tax on the portion of salary that is going towards paying back the federal government for student loans. Over the life of their loans, borrowers are taxed thousands of dollars by the federal government on their incomes, while paying thousands more in interest to the federal government on top the loan principal. It's a form of double taxation that is killing college grads' abilities to do important things like start a family, save for retirement, save for a home, or be able to pay off their loans as soon as possible. This is madness, and it has to stop! Make student loans payable as pre-tax deductions now for all current and future borrowers now!
