The Founding Fathers created our Electoral College in order to bypass the inefficiencies of a Confederacy. An Electoral College was designed to cure the following ailments.
1) Ratifying the new Constitution between both smaller and bigger States.
2) Madison, a student of Montesquieu, feared the masses.
The fix? Keeping the electoral system in play, but with a Constitutional Amendment creating a proportional system based off a local Party Preference list. Gerrymandering is a huge issue in this country. If we rationally blocked district with a system that says if there are 100,000 voters. 50,000 Democrats, 25,000 Republicans, and 25,000 Libertarians than you send to congress 2 Democrats, 1 Republican, and 1 Libertarian to represent those districts collectively.
End the two Party System.
