Privacy is not protected by our constitution, only implied in the 4th and several other amendments. This puts privacy in a legal gray area that is being threatened by good intentioned but knee jerk government reactions to terrorism. This is exemplified by intrusive searches of American citizen travelers by TSA and the unprecedented powers legislated in the Patriot Act despite tools already in existence with FISA.
We respectfully request that the President use the bully pulpit of his office to advocate for a clarification and amplification of the people’s right to privacy in the form of a constitutional amendment. We request that the President advocate this proposal with the Congress. Once passed, continue his advocacy with the state legislatures until such time as the proposal becomes law
