Dear Mr. President,
Every developed nation in the world (187 nations) has ratified (or acceded) to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), except the United States. The only six nations in the world to have not ratified it are Iran, Sudan, Palau, Tonga, and Somalia. States ratifying the Convention are required to enshrine gender equality into their domestic legislation.
If we ratified this treaty, it would strengthen our postion in the world as a strong defender of women's rights, and allow us to better promote those rights worldwide. Therefore as a champion for women's equality both in the U.S. Senate and as President, we are asking you to actively lobby Congress to ratify this important treaty.
