look at imposing the same requirements on gun owners as vehicle owners: license, insurance, yearly registration.

There are 250 million cars in the US and 350 million guns, however every year as a vehicle owner I must renew my tags, insurance and have a class A license to drive. Just as one has to register a vehicle every year and pay property tax on that vehicle, gun owners should be made to register their guns and pay taxes and insurance each year per gun. The money from the tax can pay for administration of the tax and database, just as taxes paid for vehicle property tax go toward maintenance and upkeep of roads, and the insurance can go to victims of gun violence. Also create different classes of gun license, with the strictest class reserved for assault weapons and can only be applied for by former/ current law enforcement or military that pass mental health and criminal background checks.
