Lower the age of alcohol purchase and consumption from 21 to 18 or 19.

Created by B.M. on December 22, 2015

The United States is one of twelve countries in the world with a drinking age of 21. Passed in 1984, the National Minimum Drinking Age Act required states to set the age to 21 or the federal government would withhold 10% of their federal highway fund.
It is hypocritical that someone who is 18 years of age can vote, enlist to serve in the military, purchase tobacco, and purchase firearms. A lower drinking age will also provide opportunities for teens to be socialized into drinking responsibly and how to prevent drunk driving. Many teens die of alcohol poisoning because they start in a secretive and generally unsafe environment because they have not been taught the risks of alcohol.
Sign the petition to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18 and create better alcohol education.
