Lower the age to consume alcohol from 21 to 18

At the age of 18, a person legally becomes an adult in the United States. As an adult, you are allowed to serve in serve in the country's military, vote for politicians, smoke cigarettes, get married, be prosecuted as an adult, serve on juries, and sign contracts. As an adult, a person should also have the right to consume alcohol. Having the legal drinking age at 21 only moves underage drinking underground, where binge drinking is more prone. By lowering the drinking age to 18, it would grant persons more immediate rights as an adult, promote safer drinking environments, and refocus law enforcement resources. (It is already estimated that only two out of every 1000 occasions of underage drinking results in an arrest.) If you can die for this country, you should be able to drink as well.
