Lower the cost of college education

As I graduate from high school in June 2012, I will be considering different colleges. I feel however that i'm not looking at how the eduacation is as much as looking at the price of the university. For example, top universities can range up to $55,000-$60,000 for one year, especially when over 45 million people are living under the poverty line. I feel that it isn't fair to put a kid in this much debt after he graduates from college, especially when your not guarenteed a job.
