Lower the deficit by cutting politicians' pay rates.

Created by D.F. on November 20, 2013

The average annual salary for a U.S. senator is just over $174,000. President Obama is paid altogether around $569,000 a year-a large percentage of which comes from his tax-free travel and entertainment accounts. It is VERY possible for someone to live very comfortably with half of the annual salary which these people are provided, not to mention many of these people come from old money and were set for life before they even finished their undergraduate work. I propose that the annual salary and pensions be halved for the President of the United States as well as each of the senators and the money which would have gone to their accounts be rerouted to begin chipping away at the national debt. They will have to lead a much less decadent lifestyle, but they will still be comfortable.
