The United States is in a different place now than it was in 1984. The drinking age was increased to 21 in order to combat drunk driving, but back then, young people weren't as educated about the dangers of drunk driving as they are now. Drunk driving deaths have decreased significantly since then, but our country has a new problem. Binge drinking has significantly increased, and causes 60% of the alcohol related deaths of those under 21. The fact that the drinking age is 21 doesn't mean that everyone under 21 doesn't drink. We need to remove the mentality that it is forbidden, and therefore more desirable, in order to save those lives lost to binge drinking. It's not 1984 anymore.
