There are consequences for states who do not have a drinking age of 21 years. While it is not a technical federal law, it makes it almost impossible for states to have the reasonable drinking age of 18 years. Furthermore, 18 is the age a person is legally responsible for his/her actions. Most people leave their homes and live on their own whether it be in a school setting or other. Adults under the age of 21 are harshly punished by their colleges, are fined copious amounts of money, or even held in jail for drinking alcohol in even the most responsible fashion. Persons of the age of 18 should at the very least be allowed to purchase and consume beer and wine. 21 may be kept for liquors but there is no reason to allow someone to die for their country and not have a beer before hand.
