Lowering the drinking age to 18 would result in safer alcohol consumption. An introduction to moderate drinking by a society can prepare young adults to resist binge drinking. Binge drinking is the main problem within colleges. An estimate of 2.2 million 2013 freshmen in college binge drink every weekend. Young adults in other countries are taught drinking in moderation and are less attracted to the binge drinking lifestyle. Lowering the drinking age to 18 with no explanation is very risky. The gov’t can issue a drinking license to those under the age of 21. This license would cost approximately 50 dollars (generating more than 500 mil/year) to obtain and would require a class, a test, and a GPA check. The gov’t can also implement restrictions and take license away if broken.
