The higher national drinking age has done nothing but make responsible young drinkers criminals on their records for having a drink. The age of 19 is a good age, because young adults of that age will be out of high school. Nobody instantly becomes responsible at age 21, but adults can learn to drink responsibly at a younger age. Young adults can vote, serve their country, smoke, gamble, buy/rent a house, get married, buy a car, get charged as an adult in court, and even start their own business; yet they cannot enjoy a beer. In order to promote responsible drinking, educational programs describing responsible drinking should be used to reduce binge drinking and drunk driving. Binge drinking can be reduced if drinking's not forbidden and people learn their limits.
