For over 30 years, we as young Americans have been dealt the injustice of being unable to drink alcoholic beverages until the age of 21. At the age of eighteen, we can vote, get married, and even be sent to fight and die for our country.
The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was a failed experiment put into effect under President Reagan's administration. Supporters of the raise of the MLDA argue that it has saved over 25,000 lives, but nobody ever asks themselves how many youths have died from binge drinking, how many young scholars have had their college carriers ruined due to being a "minor" in possession?
If an 18 year old citizen can vote, get married, buy cigarettes, be drafted for the military, tried as an adult, and be required to serve on a jury, why can't he or she have a drink?
