Speculators drive up gas prices and take money out of each of our pockets. We cant simply stop the oil futures market, companies & local governments need it to keep budgets stable (& taxes lower). We can change the system to make useful for those who need it and a greater risk for those who simply are using the futures to show short term gains in otherwise low earning portfolios. The simple change would be to REQUIRE that those who purchase oil on the futures market take possession of it for a minimum of 30 days on their own personal & private property prior to selling it. The key is that they must own the land that he oil is stored on, it can not be leased, and must use it or hold for 30 days. This will drive out gamblers and protect organizations that rely on the futures market.
