Lower the legal age of alcohol consumption to 18. As a compromise, increase the penalties for DUI to deter this offense.

An issue that has bothered many for a while, the rules for alcohol consumption are severely restrictive, compared to the rest of the world. Our nation grants adult privileges to teenagers at age 18, including, but not limited to, tobacco purchase, gambling, right to serve in our nation's armed services, tax responsibilities, etc. However, the only privilege not granted at the age of consent is alcoholic consumption. How can we justify sending someone overseas to serve our country, but they aren't permitted a beer? It is a rule that needs to be re-evaluated. As a compromise, the rules and laws surrounding DUI should be re-evaluated and possibly stiffened as a deterrent. Also, a reform is recommended in educating young people in making responsible decisions about alcohol consumption.
