In the United States, a person becomes a legal adult at the age of 18. At this age, one can register to vote and serve in our nation's military. Why is it that one can serve our country, but not be served a drink? The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world with a drinking age of 21, while elsewhere the age to consume alcohol is 18 or even lower. As an adult, citizens of the United States have the right to purchase and consume alcohol. Studies have shown that prohibition of alcohol between the ages of 18-21 is not effective, and it is time to change this unjust law. Allowing the sale and consumption of alcohol legally to anyone 18+ will also create a large increase of revenue. Legal purchase will support small and local business, and boost the U.S economy.
