At the age of 18, we are considered adults in the United States. At this age, we are legally responsible for ourselves. We receive the rights to vote, serve jury duty, sign contracts, get married, and even die for our own country through drafting. Some may argue that the age of 18 is too young to be responsible enough to handle alcohol, however, there are many people over the legal drinking age who still cannot handle the alcohol, while many citizens under the drinking age can, and will, handle alcohol in a responsible manner. Many other countries drinking ages are also 18, while very few countries, including the United States, have the drinking age set very high. We the people ask that the age of alcohol consumption be set at a lower age.
