That means that America is part of the meager 9 percent who restrict drinking to 20 or 21 years old. If American citizens are considered adults at 18 years old and are able to make all decisions for themselves, then they should be able to consume alcohol. Excessive alcohol consumption is unhealthy at any age but in moderation alcohol affects an 18 year olds body the same as a 21 year old. Also the voting age was lowered to 18 following the Vietnam war due to criticism of not allowing soldiers to vote for the country they fight for.
