Lower the Legal Drinking Age to 18 years of age

The United States is currently one of the only first-world countries to have a drinking age higher than its age for legal adulthood. Opponents argue that a lower drinking age encourages more abuse of the privilege. When college or high school students cannot obtain alcohol legally, they look to other methods that put them in harm's way. If the US was to lower the legal drinking age to 18, these young adults may pursue legal drinking on a safer route, with the ability to ask for help when needed without the threat of legal action.
