In the USA, one is considered an adult at the age of 18 years. At 18 years, one can purchase cancerous tobacco products, gamble money away at the lottery, even put their life on the life for the freedom and safety of the American people in the military. But they can not consume alcohol. That means a soldier who is prepared to give his life for our country can not have a beer with his father before he is deployed. One achieves many liberties when they turn 18. Most of these liberties are associated with being an adult and being able to make adult decisions. Kids, college students in particular, are going to drink no matter the law. Why penalize them for it? I am petitioning the government to lower the drinking age to 19. 19 is a fair age for adults while keeping alcohol out of high school.
