Lower the national drinking age to 18 years of age.

Created by K.S. on January 31, 2014

We petition the United States government to lower the national age for the purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages from 21 to 18 years of age. At the age of 18 a young man or woman can vote, purchase tobacco, fight in the armed forces, among a number of other adulthood privileges. You become an adult at the age of 18 in this country. If that is to be the case, a young man or woman should be able to make his or her own decisions about the consumption of alcohol.
We could also help reduce dangerous binge drinking among 18-20 year olds by lowering the drinking age to 18, and promoting safe, responsible alcohol consumption. Also of note, the only other countries with a drinking age of 21: Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates.
