18 years of age is the age of adulthood in the U.S, and adults should be able to make their own decisions about things like alcohol consumption. Also, lowering the National Drinking Age to 18 would allow people between the ages o 18 and 20 (particularly those in college) to consume alcohol in safer, more supervised environments like bars, restaurants, and other licensed locations rather than places like fraternity houses, leading to less alcohol related incidents like alcohol poisoning. Many European countries with minimum drinking ages at or close to 18 have similar or better drunk driving statistics than the U.S, and drunk driving statistics have gone down steadily 2 years before the National drinking age was established, so the law cannot be credited for preventing drunk driving either
