Lower Obesity Rates: Ban or Tax High-Fructose Corn Syrup

Created by M.G. on July 18, 2013

Obesity facts:

-1/3 of Americans are obese
-Obesity equals higher risk of developing cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc.
-2018: ~1/2 of the US will be obese, costing the govt. $344 billion

High-fructose corn syrup & obesity:

-Princeton study: rats fed HFCS vs. sugar gained more weight/developed metabolic syndrome
-Princeton notes skyrocketing obesity rates since HFCS’s overtake of sugar in the 70’s
-An AJCN study found a correlation between HFCS and obesity
-A Global Health study established a link between HFCS and diabetes

The US govt. must care more about the people’s physical health than the financial health of their cronies in the corn industry. Join me in asking Pres. Obama and his admin. to reduce the availability of HFCS through taxation or a ban.
