Internet piracy is undoubtedly a crime. However, it is hardly a crime deserving up to a $250,000 fine and/or 10 years in prison. This is too harsh and benefits only Hollywood tycoons. Citizens of the US have a right to be protected from cruel and unusual punishments, especially ones that protect and serve corporate interests.
Internet piracy is stealing. However, Internet piracy is a crime no different than shoplifting, and should be treated no differently.The maximum penalty for internet piracy should be drastically lowered, with a small fine and no prison time at all.
The government and laws should be fair and serve the interest of the people, not corporations.
