The increase to 100,000 of the petition threshold is an obvious maneuver to reduce the likelihood of a petition being read and responded to.
The new limit also prevents a response to smaller towns and communities who still have an interest in federal matters but don't have the membership to support the new threshold; having such a high threshold is likely to disenfranchise many people from the petition system.
Given the already overbearing size of the federal government, the hiring of many new policy experts to read and respond to citizen petitions should make a statistically insignificant dent in the federal deficit.
We ask the administration to quit coming up with excuses not to read the petitions, and lower the threshold to allow all citizens a bigger voice in their government.
