Lower the standards for participation in general election presidential debates

Under current rules third parties and independents may not participate in general election debates unless they receive at least 15% in a general election poll. These standards are needlessly restrictive and effectively shut up third parties and independents from federal politics. We propose that the standards for participation be only that a candidate has ballot access in enough states for it to be mathematically possible for them to win an electoral college. Currently, only two third parties meet these standards (the green party of the united states and the libertarian party) which is a reasonable number to include. Millions of americans choose not to identify with either party, if americans were presented with more options then voter turnout and participation in elections could improve.
