Reduce status of Marijuana from DEA schedule I drug

Created by K.S. on February 16, 2016

Roughly 7% (~2.5 million) of Americans consider themselves to be "regular" pot smokers. Yet, the health implications are virtually unknown, due in large part to the listing of marijuana as a schedule I drug, all but blocking regular research of the impacts. Furthermore, marijuana possesses unique compounds that may have therapeutic benefits, but also largely unexplored.

Schedule I drugs are listed as "having no currently accepted medical use in the United States, a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision, and a high potential for abuse."

Clearly the ubiquitous nature of medical marijuana clinics across the nation is evidence that marijuana should no longer fall under schedule one. Please update the DEA and allow the scientific community to do its work!
