The only thing gun owners want more than their guns is lower taxes. Gun buyback programs help to reduce gun violence, saving the government money and reducing the cost of health care for everyone.
Let's offer multi-year tax credits to those people who give up all of their guns, in the type of compensation that they will appreciate most. A multi-year tax cut for many people is more enticing than the same amount of cash, so a savings my be achieved there. Also, this would allow our government to spread the cost of the buyback program over a few years. The tax credit should be noted in bold face on their tax refunds and possibly on their pay stubs and w-2 forms.
