Currently, drug testing policies make it exponentially more difficult for marijuana users to find decent employment. Legality aside, those drugs considered as "hard" like cocaine, opiates, amphetamines and barbituates will be undetectable via standard urine drug testing in a matter of days. Marijuana can require weeks and sometimes months to become undetectable.
I am not asking for legalization of marijuana, only to be given a fair chance at finding employment. If in fact we consider some drugs to be more dangerous than others why is it that users of hard drugs have a higher chance of passing employment drug screens.
These tests should be designed to find out if a person is a suitable and responsible candidate for employment not if they made a choice a month ago to use an illicit drug.
