Lower the voting age to 16 so that teenagers who are interested in politics can participate in the democratic process.

Created by G.V. on January 22, 2013

We believe that excluding younger Americans from voting in elections is a blatant violation of the first amendment, and that shutting out the voices of a few citizens with good ideas is a waste of potential.

Once a person reaches the age of 16, they have been educated as to how the democratic process works, and they have developed a comprehensive understanding of world politics and issues that America faces today. If there is a minimum voting age, why is there not a maximum voting age? Some people would say that an average 16-year-old has a better understanding of politics than a 85-year-old. 16-year-olds with jobs pay taxes on their paychecks, so why are they not allowed to participate in democracy? And shouldn't teenagers be allowed to vote before they are allowed to go to war?
