The voting down of the background check bill in the Senate was disappointing and disheartening. It makes you question the intent and motives of the people who refused to let it pass. However, to reach the goal of effective and meaningful gun control it is up to everyone to continue to keep the issue in the headlines, keep fighting against outdated and outmoded understandings of the Constitution, and stand up for the rights of every citizen to a safe community free from the fear of harm. Guns are not the way to keep people safe. People keep people safe.
