The United States is one of the few countries without a standardized "adulthood age". A person may legally drive a motor-powered vehicle at the age of 16, but may not have a sip of any alcoholic beverage until he or she turns 21. However, when it comes to smoking tobacco (which has proven to be more harmful to human health) the age of consent is 18. There is a gap of 5 years between being legally able to drive and drink.
The United States should take a more logical approach and set a universal age at 18 years of age, where every citizen may drive, drink, and smoke legally.
