Dear Mr. President,
On behalf of the American people we are writing to ask you the to please support the following mandates by 2015:
1) That all eggs for commercial use (buying/ selling) will come from cage-free facilities where the hens are allowed normal hen behaviors; such as pecking for food, walking around and drinking from pools of water. Currently most chickens on egg farms are 5 hens to a tiny cage and will never be able to even turn around because the cage is so small.
2) Allow a minimum square footage per hen that would allow the hen to live in acceptable conditions (to be determined by research).
3) Prohibit male chicks from being killed using a large high-speed grinder into which the chicks are put, gassing chambers and other inhumane methods.
