Make all elected positions volunteer positions.

With all the budget cuts why not government wages. My proposal is to make all elected positions across the board volunteer positions. I'm not saying give them nothing but what I am saying is the government pays basics:housing, food, utilities, ect.. & a small expense account of $100.00 a week and this ends the day they leave office. Tax payers pay all this and much more now. The best figure I could find for elected officials across the board was 510,497 in 92' (more now). Take that multiplied by the salary (2013) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate 174,000 & you get 88,826,478,000 savings a year! Over 75% of firefighters are volunteer. Tell me why I can run into a burning building for free but they can't sit in a chair in a/c for the same price? I would, wouldn't you?
