Our current Congress and every Congress before this one have used Lobbyists to help them write the legislation that we all must live by. This is why most legislation does not solve the problem it was designed to address and instead makes problems worse, not better.
There is no reason in a democracy to allow a corporation or wealthy individual pay money to a sitting Congressman or Senator or President, other than for their campaign funding. Every dollar spent on anything else should be and morally and ethically must be considered a crime with stiff penalties, or democracy cannot thrive.
