In a recent Gallup poll, 43% of Americans are Independent. However, in states that are closed for the primaries, they cannot vote. It is ridiculous that certain people would not be able to vote in primaries simply because they did not register for a particular party. They should have a right to support their chosen candidate irrespective of party affiliation and they should not be forced into party loyalty just to support a particular candidate. Many people in closed states will miss voting in the primaries simply because they did not know when the deadline was to register as a Democrat or Republican. We want everybody, regardless of their political party, to head out to the any primary election and vote for someone who is their best candidate. That way, voter turnouts will not be low.
