In the times of changing views and beliefs, it is important to respect every state's position on a social issue. Please consider that when a bill regarding social issues is decided by congress, if it cannot be completely decided as all supporting or opposing, then it should be given to the states to be decided upon in their jurisdiction by making it a reserved power. In this way, it creates a diverse society for all americans to live, for if the individual's beliefs are not the same as the state they live in, they can simply live in a state that does have their same believe. Instead of making all states believe the same thing, a state would not have to accept a law it opposes.
i.e. gay marriage probably wouldn't be accepted by the entire country but some states would support it.
