Social service recipients, who have school age children, should be mandated to be actively involved in their child's academics. Parental involvement is essential to positive student performance. I've been in education since 2000, mostly working in low income/Title 1 schools (Schools with a large % of students who qualify for/receive free/reduced lunch) It has been my experience that many of those parents do not work and receive social service benefits: medicaid, subsidized housing and food stamps. It should be mandated that any parent receiving social service benefits, and not working, should have to: Volunteer at their child's school; Actively participate in the PTA; Have benefits connected to grades, discipline and attendance; and submit grade reports to their s.s.case manager.
