Health insurance companies have contracts with hospitals, doctors and supply companies including Rx where services are paid fairly by the insurance company. This should not be necessary as the billing should be fair to begin with. A surgery might cost a patient $50,000 out of pocket if they don't have insurance, but the bill would gladly be settled by payment of only $3,000 by insurance due yo fair pricing contracts. The individual has to pay an outrageous price for services and face financial ruin. A simple IV might cost $150 for the uninsured but an insurance company is only bill maybe $20. If the patient was charged the same fair amounts, there would be far less financial ruin due to grossly inflated medical bills.
The cost of services should be regulated and fair.
