Make any position in Congress an elected volunteer position.

Created by H.N. on March 07, 2013

Many Americans feel that they can no longer trust their Congressmen, viewing them not as honorable representatives, but as greedy politicians looking only for high paying jobs. Not only do Congressmen get paid thousands to sit around arguing, achieving almost nothing, but they have the power to determine their own pay. Not only would turning Congress into an organization of volunteers sharply decrease the amount of money spent on their paychecks and decrease the national deficit, it would also protect the integrity of our Congressmen as people who genuinely seek to improve our nation, rather than seek higher office as a means to achieve higher pay and benefits without higher penalty. Most Congressmen have other jobs as lawyers in their home districts, so income should not be an issue.
