Make ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Certification a mandatory requirement on a national scale for teaching credentials.

Created by S.H. on March 30, 2013

Make ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Certification a mandatory requirement for teaching credentials on a NATIONAL scale. Currently, only required by CA and FL under specified guidelines. We propose that this certification be a requirement implemented into the educators' prerequisites in the public school system as well as at collegiate levels. On an article written in the New York Times, 3/20/13 (based on information reported by the CDC) "The likelihood of a school-aged American child receiving a diagnosis of autism, Asperger syndrome or a related developmental disorder increased 72 percent in 2011-12 from 2007". 1 in 88 children will be diagnosed (just "diagnosed") with some form of Autism! We need this put into action in order to mainstream ASD children for their futures as well as ours!
