As the Mother of an Autistic Adult, I would like to ask that Congress give a priority to increased funding for both researching a cause and cure for Autism and a Media Awareness Campaign to expose the current healthcare crisis affecting millions of American families who are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. When my son was diagnosed over 25 yrs ago the diagnosis was then 1 in 1,000 children...now it is 1 in 88 nationally.
Many families are unaware or in communities which do not have the resources available to assist the children affected, or for families struggling with the rehabilitiation services needed to provide continued educational and medical support for the child and Autistic Adults as well as total and respitive relief care for those families members responsible for care.
