Make "Avoid Tolls" default on Google Maps website and phone applications

Created by D.H. on July 27, 2016

Google Maps is selectively promoting 'toll route' options for Google Maps users by requiring extra steps to disable tols, continually omitting an option to make avoiding tolls a default, and not providing adequate warning that a route contains tolls (specific to mobile application). Users of the application, particularly drivers that are unfamiliar with the route, may unknowingly be required to pay unexpected fees such as tolls, tickets and bank fees. This can be detrimental an increasing number of drivers who do not carry large amounts of cash, or do not carry any cash at all. A solution is to require Google and other journey planner applications to make avoiding tolls default, incorporate the ability to save the option as a default, and require alerts when a toll option is selected.
